An Introduction To PLR Content
Before I start, here’s what we’re going through:
1. What is PLR (Private Label Rights)
2. Top 3 ways to use PLR Content
3. Top 3 mistakes people make
I wanted to spend some time to explain to you what PLR is, because there is a lot of misinformation out there right now surrounding PLR, and I’d like to help set the record straight!
Skip to the section of the email you want to go to, but I’d suggest you read the lot… no sales pitch here.
Ok, on with the rest.
Over the next 7 days I want to take you from front to back on PLR material, and how it can help you in your online business. There won’t be much of a sales pitch here, but I will tell you the best place to get your PLR material from, but more on that later!
These next 7 days you are going to see content that you can actually USE and apply right now, rather than 80% sell, and 20% content, so enjoy!
So with that said…
What is PLR?
It’s simple, it’s stuff that you can put your name too.
The thing is, private label rights (PLR) has been around for a long time, you’ll see vitamin companies, electronics manufacturers and other offline businesses doing it all the time.
From a content point of view though (or in respect of articles etc.) it is content that you can put your name on, and use in anyway you’d like to.
The only restriction is that you cannot sell it (that is what resell rights are).
Let’s go through the top 3 things you can do:
1. Build a site and populate them with the content, monetizing it with adsense and affiliate programs
Simple really, all it means is that you are building a site, and whacking the content up with some adsense and affiliate products, and then start the search engine optimization process (this is a whole other area) and start getting ranked in the search engines.
What I’d do if it were me (and it is since I do this too), is put up 2 separate sites (go to a place like www.domainsbot.com and search for an ‘on topic’ domain name) use a free template from somewhere like www.oswd.org and build my site from that (you can use something like Dreamweaver, Frontpage, XSitePro, or a site builder like www.websitearticlewizard.com).
2. Submit to article directories to build traffic to existing sites
This requires that you rewrite about 75% of the article at least… now you might be saying, “well why the hell would I get articles just to rewrite them???”. Have you ever sat down and tried to write 40 articles? I’ve timed it and it takes at least 4 days (writing about 10 a day and taking about 40 minutes to 1 hour to write each one).
Once I learned about PLR articles, a 75%+ rewrite takes me MAYBE 20 minutes (in reality it is more like 10 minutes once you get good at it)…
It’s really simple, all you need to do, is read the paragraph that you are rewriting, digest it, and then just write it in your own words… expand on it, make some additions, change some stuff, and there you go!
Once you’ve finished your rewrite, go to some of the article submission places, or use software like www.articleannouncer.com, or a service like www.isnare.com and away you go!
3. Turn it into an autoresponder
Now, I’ve had to write this autoresponder myself… but it’s no different than if I had gotten someone to write information for me (like PLR articles) and put them up for you as content.
Articles are just content, that’s it… an autoresponder is a way you can get your people coming back to your sites more and more often, and is a great way to build rapport (so long as you’re actually GIVING something of value).
Top 3 mistakes people make
So if PLR is so easy to use, how do people make mistakes?
Well that’s easy…
1. Join a service that is sub par or is part of a wholesaling network
There are a lot of services out there that offer sub par quality content. It’s written by writers that don’t have English as their first language, or in some cases, give content that is less than third grade level.
It should be obvious you don’t want to join these kinds of PLR memberships.
The other thing is that there have become a few wholesaling PLR networks. What this means is that a membership can offer PLR material that other memberships are offering. They get their articles all from the same source, and the articles are identical!
Why do you stay away from these? Because the service might say “limited to 300 people” but the reality is that there are 10 or 20 other places out there that are offering the same material to the same number of people!
2. Join a service that has too many members or offer backlogs to their articles
This should be quite obvious, but places that are open to 1000 people, just aren’t the place to join (unless you are getting it really cheap!).
The reason is that the more people that have the content, the more people you are going to be competing with, and the less likely people are going to rewrite their content.
3. Forget about the fundamentals of building sites
Sometimes people get into this building frenzy, which makes them just want to build site after site after site.
The problem with that is that on the internet the phrase “Build it and they will come” just doesn’t apply… this is where you need to remember the fundamentals of building a site.
When you build a site, make sure that you keep the on page SEO factors right, and that you are building the site over time, slowly uploading content, and building links.
Important stuff, but it needs to be remembered.
So, that’s it for today, look out for the next email tomorrow, in it, we’ll be covering how to use PLR articles with blogs.
Using PLR Content In Blogs
Hope you thoroughly read the last email, there was quite a lot of good info in it!
Blogs are brilliant, they really are, the challenge is that they have been used, abused, and are sitting like a ripped up rag doll on the side of the road… and that’s exactly how Google looks at them… unless you’re smart.
You can do this with www.blogger.com because let’s face it, it’s free, but my preference is with Word Press.
Anyway, the point is, blogs are good, they’re easy, useful, and if done right, can get a good whack of traffic for your adsense or affiliate sites.
What you want to do, is try to use an original template… yes this involves a little more work, and I’ll explain why in the next email, but especially when you are using PLR articles, you’ll want to use an original template for yourself.
You’ll also want to rewrite about 25% at least of the articles… if you’re lazy, then you don’t have to do it, but it’s better if you do.
So you’ve now got yourself an original template in your blog, you’ve rewritten your articles by about 25% (preferably at least the title and the first paragraph)… start the blog with 5 articles and put them up on the site straight away, then one every 1-2 days for the next 14 days, then 1 every 3 days for the next 30 days. By now you should have a good indication of whether the site/niche is going to pay off for you.
You’ll also want to take 5 or so articles that you get, and rewrite them by at least 75% and submit them to the directories (like I said in the last email to you).
Now, you can stop there or you can keep going if you like… it basically comes down to adding more content, building more links, and lo and behold, soon you’ll be getting traffic to your blogs, and then it’s up to you to convert them!
Ok, the next email (in 2 days time) is going to be on the duplicate content myth, and my take on the whole scenario.
The Truth Behind Duplicate Content And PLR
Today I want to go through with you on the duplicate content side of things… there is a lot of talk about duplicate content and how terrible it is.
But before I go into that I want to give you the PLR Process… this has been designed by the guys over at PLRPro and they have told me that I can give away to you for free.
You can download it at: PLRPro
This isn’t some basic ‘free report’ that gives you just 15 pages of stuff you usually can’t use.
This is 181 pages, and goes into exact detail on what you need to do to build your content sites.
Ok, as for duplicate content, for the most part, it’s not true, HOWEVER, if you slap up the same article, with the exact same website as someone else, then yep, you’re likely going to fall into problems.
Think about it, the actual content of the site USUALLY makes up such a small portion of the overall page, in a normal site, that automatically your site will be at least 50% different, add in a 25-50% rewrite to the article on top of that, and you’re looking at an almost original page.
Now, there is no hard and fast rule about this… only Google knows what Google knows, and they keep it that way for a reason.
It all comes down to, make sure you are using an original template, (especially when using blogger blogs) and give yourself a healthy rewrite of the articles and you should be fine.
At the end of the day, test, test, test, and test some more. Anyone who says “you should do this” without backing up their claims with test results, with an added “do your own tests” is usually talking the talk without walking the walk.
This was a relatively short email, but it will hopefully give you some clarity on the duplicate content issues that we are seeing.
Oh, one last thing, when you get your articles from a PLR article site, they should be 4-600 words in length, have a keyword density of around 1-3% (although not AS important these days), and be written for HUMANS to read… this means no rehashed junk, no poor grammar/quality.
I will be honest here though, no one is perfect, so allow about a 1% mistake rate, because mistakes DO happen.
Online Success Using SIMPLE Business Strategies
Two friends of mine who own and operate PLRPro are 2 guys that know what they are doing.
I’ve spent the last few days talking to you about PLR material, and what you can do with it, well, now it’s time to tell you where to get it from.
But before I do, I want to give you a little bit about their backgrounds…
Marc Lindsay is Mr SEO, he’s been in this game for close to 3 years, and he knows his stuff… He is probably the most hardworking man I know, he normally puts in at least 13-14 hours Monday-Friday PLUS he will usually rack up 30 hours of WORK Saturday and Sunday.
He’s a legend, and deserves a medal in kicking his own ass to get the job done!
Daniel has had a predominant offline business background, he’s had his own business since he was 17, and always had to pay his own way (making plenty of mistakes along the way!). He’s had his business successes, and his business failures, and he learned more from his failures than he did from his successes.
Daniel is a relative baby when it comes to the online game, he’s been in it for a little over 12 months, but by applying his outside knowledge, and just immersing himself in the game, Marc & Daniel have built a substantial business online.
Now, basically there are three activities you perform online:
Super Productive activities
Money Making or Productive activities
Inefficient activities
Rich Schefren from www.strategicprofits.com was the guy that I heard this from, and I think that his model is fantastic (although it’s been called other titles before).
Super productive activities are really easy to identify, they are the activities that you do, that will establish a system to set someone else up to do what you are doing. Did that make sense?
An example is if you are building your own links, it would be building a system behind that link building process, and then outsourcing it to someone or hiring someone to do that activity in house… if you were spending say, 20 hours a week on just link building, you’ve just bought yourself back 20 hours that you can invest elsewhere.
Money making or productive activities are pretty simple as well… these are things like finding JV partners, MOST aspects of building your websites (so long as they are monetized), making sales calls, getting your E-Books and putting them online and in clickbank, writing sales letters etc.
Now, ALL these things can be outsourced… yes, I said ALL.
I can guarantee you that out there somewhere in the world there is someone out there who is better than you at doing those activities, now you might have to pay for them sure, and when you’re starting out, you’ll be doing most of these yourself, but you start by outsourcing a single component of this process (the money making aspect) and as your income builds, so to does your outsourcing/hiring.
Inefficient activities is where most people spend their time on. Checking forums and checking stats for example. Don’t get caught in the trap of spending too much time checking your stats… even though everyone does it every now and then.
Don’t get me wrong, inefficient time can be useful… but just recognize what it is you are doing… you are NOT building your business in forums (unless you rely on it somehow, and if you are, then that can be outsourced too), you are NOT building your business by checking your stats 10 times a day… it can be fun, but just recognize it for what it is.
When starting out, you should focus your time at about 10/80/10… meaning 10% super productive, 80% money making, 10% inefficient (you’ll always have about 10%… in reality it’s more like 50% but let’s just say we’re hardcore into this… but we’re not total robots)… as you grow your income past the $2,000 per month mark, it should look more like 20/70/10, at $5,000 per month, 30/60/10, $10,000 50/40/10 and so on… at the end, all you should be doing is working on super productive activities with a small mix of money making and inefficient (remember we’re not robots).
The first thing you should outsource, is anything that you can make money from, so you’re looking at it from a dollar to dollar perspective, for every $1 I spent outsourcing this process, I should be receiving $3 in return, or something like that.
Unfortunately this is a topic that is a book all in itself, but hopefully I’ve opened your eyes a little bit into how you should be looking at building your business, rather than in just ‘dabbling online’.
Building multiple streams of income with your PLR articles & content sites
Ok, so we’ve covered what PLR is, the top ways to use them, how to rewrite and build blogs with them, and how you should be looking at your online business.
Taking it one step further…
There are two schools of thought online (and really in anything that is viewed as ‘making money’), and that is “put all your eggs in one basket” or, “diversify, diversify, diversify”.
Now, neither is necessarily right or wrong, but I prefer to follow the latter strategy.
So how do you achieve multiple streams of income with PLR?
I’ll name 3:
- Adsense (contextual advertising)
- Affiliate Programs
- Your Own Products
Content is the backbone of the internet, and quality content is what drives it forward. Most people use the internet for research, some use to buy goods.
The trend is still very strong in the research side, but the buying side is improving year upon year.
PLR content allows you to capture your small piece of the online pie, but would you rather just have adsense on your sites? Or would you rather have just affiliates? Why not both?
Why not capture their email addresses and backend your own physical products as well.
What about setting up a forum and building a community so that you have people coming back to your sites time and again?
My point is, don’t use your PLR material just for one single stream of income. Put adsense on your site, put affiliate links, and test to see which one brings in the most.
The boys over at PLRPro have given you a brilliant resource with the PLR Process, and tomorrow I’m going to talk about their service and what they offer.
And I’ll be quite honest, when they make the claim of being the #1 provider of PLR content on the web, they aren’t kidding.
So for today, put together your game plan, make sure you have read the PLR Process that you should have downloaded yesterday, and I’ll talk to you tomorrow.
How To Spin Your Content In An Effective Manner
Today we’re going to be covering how to rewrite your articles effectively (as well as how keywords are starting to be looked at in the search engines), but before we go into that, I want to share with you a case study from the boys over at PLRPro from one of their clients.
Here it is…
Case Study: Chris Marshall
Chris Marshall has been online for about the last 3 ½ years.
He started out and went straight into setting up an agency that helped their clients with the Pay Per Click and online Marketing campaigns.
Having setup a substantial business there, he felt it was time to diversify and open up a new stream of income…
In comes Adsense.
Before Chris joined PLRPro, he was doing quite well in adsense compared to most average users. He went from doing about $500 per month with just 15-20 sites, to spring boarding to $2000 per month and 170 sites, in just 4 short months.
That means he’s quadrupled his income each month, not bad?
Chris attributes this growth to what we offer in PLRPro.
But, he’s smart, he takes what we give him, and expands on it, and keeps building the sites so that they are growing over time.
This is one of the crucial keys to success, and that is to grow overtime, not just to build and move onto the next one (although you can do that).
Now, is $2,000 a lot? Well that depends on your perspective, if you’re currently earning $25,000 a year, then yeah, sure, you’ve just replaced your income. But if you read or watch some of these videos of the guys and girls doing $20,000, $30,000 or $100,000 a month, it might not seem like much. But how many people are there out there making that level of money in Adsense? Not a lot, they are in the top .001% of income earners.
The reality is, there is no quick fix to this game, you need to take a long term approach.
I wanted to ask Chris this one question:
What would you say to someone who was considering joining plrpro?
And this is his response…
“I think the guidance from me would be that you get regular content very cost effectively, if you’ don’t expect miracles and have time to work on building sites it’s a great boost to get moving…
…Just make sure you keep up with the packs – i.e. don’t put them to one side and think “I’ll sort them later” find something creative to do with them…
Don’t just cut and paste them into the existing sites, find a way to put your own touch to them, whatever that may be.”
Chris is spot on here, it’s the perfect springboard for you to get moving with your content sites, be they for Adsense, affiliates, or your own products.
I’d have to say, Chris is doing really well for just having started using PLR material for 4 months!
Now, on with the rewriting and the keywords (sorry this is quite a long one today!)
One of the biggest problems that people have when they get their articles, is that they don’t know how to rewrite their articles.
Unfortunately most people overcomplicate the issue, for some reason it seems to hard for whatever reason, or you might even get what is called ‘writers block’… basically means that you can sit there for hours and hours and not write a single thing.
It’s not really that hard, all you need to do is look at the article you are rewriting, and just break it down.
As the saying goes, “Rome wasn’t built in a day”… you need to break the article down into bite sized chunks so that you can digest it effectively.
The first strategy you can use, is to look at each paragraph individually, read it a few times (or if you’re good, once) and then rewrite it in your own words, this is what I do, and is the most common method to rewriting, and works very effectively.
All you then do, is once you’ve rewritten the first paragraph, you can move to the second, third, fourth etc. until it’s finished, or you can rewrite only a portion of it.
The second way you can do it, is to do a mind map on what is covered in the article, on the major points, and then write about each of the major points.
Mind maps are simple to learn, just do a Google search if you don’t know what I mean, but they are fantastic for keeping ideas, taking notes… and rewriting articles.
So, that is the most basic way to rewrite articles, it’s not fancy, it’s not out of this world stuff, it’s basic, and it works.
As a side note, you can also use services out there that will compare an article side by side, and tell you what % they are different.
This is super handy, and makes it extremely fast.
The other major point we wanted to cover today, was that of the keywords themselves in the article.
Gone are the days where you used to have to use the keyword exactly as it is searched for.
The search engines are getting smarter, so when you are rewriting your articles, you can make the keywords within a ‘phrase’ e.g. dog training basics, can become ‘basics of dog training’ or ‘the basic premise for training dogs’ etc.
I hope you’ve enjoyed the material in today’s email, I know it was rather long, but there was a lot to cover
Take It To The Next Level…
I hope you’ve enjoyed the last 6 days of content on PLR material, hopefully you will have walked away a little wiser, and smarter in what you need to look out for when joining a PLR membership site, as well as what you can do to use the material you get.
I’ve spoken about what is good, what is bad, and what you really need to watch out for, so today I thought it best to tell you about where you can actually GET decent PLR material from.
The boys over at PLRPro have been mentioned quite a bit in these last few emails, so it only seems natural that they would be the place I’d be recommending you get your content from!
But why?
Well, they limit their membership to 200 people per group (they now have 5 groups) with each group getting a totally unique set of 440 articles.
Here’s a simple breakdown of what they offer:
- free hosting
- monthly templates
- full affiliate research
- full keyword research both main and sub keywords
- SEO training
- Multiple languages
- And a whole lot more
The other reason that I really recommend you join PLRPro first before you join any other PLR membership, is because of the strict policy that they have with the quality control over their content.
They are almost fanatics when it comes to the quality of their content.
There is very little that they DON’T offer (they even have a Site Indexing System to help you get your sites indexed), but I’ll let you decide.
If you want the best PLR content you can possibly get, then head to PLRPro
I can guarantee (and they do to) that you won’t be disappointed.
Cheers,
Paul Schmitt
